Music Director/Conductor John R. Williams has been the conductor of the Golden Eagle Concert Band since January 1995. He received his Bachelors of Music Education in Instrumental Music from the University of North Texas in 1964 and a Masters of Science in Education from the University of Southern California in 1970 by extension while stationed in Germany with the Air Force. He is a Life Member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia of America, the Colorado Bandmasters Association, and the Denver Musicians Association. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1992 from the Air Force Reserve. He is currently a real estate broker with his own company and an active professional musician with his own professional dance band and combo. He has been a professional musician for over 50 years, playing organ, piano, and percussion in various groups. He became a professional organist at the age of 16. Upon graduation from the University of North Texas, he taught band at Greiner Junior High School in Dallas, Texas. He was comissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the U. S. Air Force upon graduation from college. He auditioned as a Band Director in the Air Force and was assigned as Deputy Commander/Assistant Conductor of the 539th Air Force Band of the West at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. After seven and one-half years, he left active duty with the Air Force and settled in Aurora, Colorado. He formed the John Williams Combo and worked almost every venue in the Denver metro area playing for wedding receptions, dances, and special events. He was the organist for the Colorado Rockies National Hockey League team from 1977 through 1981 and the Denver Nuggets from 1978 through 1979. He formed the John Williams Orchestra in the 1980s and has provided great big band music for many events. His band is well-known for its solid dance tempos and great sounds. The opportunity to get back into conducting came in 1995 with the Golden Eagle Concert Band. Since taking the reins of this group, the group has expanded in size and in the number of concerts performed. He was instrumental in the band obtaining its IRS 501(c)(3) non-profit organization status in 1996. Upon obtaining the IRS status, he wrote numerous grants applications for funds, and as a result the band obtained a full set of Manhassett Voyager stands and bags, new jacket uniforms, a full set of percussion equipment and a new custom 6x12 trailer for its equipment. Under his leadership, the GECB has become well-known in the Denver area and throughout Colorado.
